About the Speaker
Mark Collins
President and Chief Executive Officer
BC Ferries
Mark Collins is a mariner and Marine executive who leads a team dedicated to connecting people and communities in coastal BC.
In his current role of President and CEO of BC Ferries, one of the largest ferry operators in the world, Mark oversees the delivery of safe, reliable ferry service that is vital to the social and economic health of coastal regions and their residents, and to BC.
Growing up in a ferry-dependent Newfoundland, Mark recalls winter ice blocking the ferry from delivering fresh food. He spent many nights at the terminal waiting for the weather to allow the ferry to come in. This experience taught him that the connections and goods provided by coastal ferries are essential to the areas they serve.
Mark's personal experience, combined with his knowledge gained through many years in leadership roles, are the foundation of his vision for BC Ferries today: to be a future focused enterprise that is trusted and valued by communities and customers. He is driven to provide exceptional ferry service on the West Coast.
Mark began his career on the water, first on bulk carriers, oil tankers and container vessels, eventually taking on shore-based management roles. Prior to joining BC Ferries, Mark was the President of Rolls Royce Marine Brazil and Rolls Royce Marine Italy.
He holds a Masters in Business Administration in Transport and Logistics from the University of British Columbia, a Bachelor of Arts in Marine Geography from Saint Mary's University in Nova Scotia, a Diploma of Mechanical (Marine) Engineering from Memorial University in Newfoundland, and a Certificate in Strategic Leadership from Oxford University in the UK.
